An Verstraete (Belgium, (° 1976) studied classical philology and works as a performer, author and creator.
She worked on representations of e.g. Ruud Gielens, Antonio Tavares, Alvaro Guimaraes, and Aleksander Petlura and stood on the stages of Minard (Ghent), Vooruit (Ghent), Zuiderpershuis (Antwerp) and Kaaitheater (Brussels).
She made a performance for Happy New Ears in KC Buda and she created 'Club Caval', a theater-project for children in Kaaitheater, in cooperation with Manah Depauw, which was concluded with an installation and film about the project.
In 2008-2009 she was assistant-director for a documentary film about Belgium for the French TV-channel Arte. She twice was curator and performer for the mini-festival "The performer and the screen" in Artcinema OFFoff (Ghent), she was director and performer for the theatre-piece "Moses" (Van Zilverpapier Ghent) and visiting lecturer in RITS (Brussels School for Performing Arts).
She wrote two children's books who will be published in 2011 and 2012 by Lannoo.
Another of her writing appeared in literary magazines.
For the moment she works on 'The angry girl', a performance based upon two stories of her hand and handmade collages, in collaboration with scenographer Sven Roofthooft (Benjamin Verdonck) and dramaturge Ellen Stynen (Toneelhuis). She worked at residence in Arts Centre Buda (Kortrijk) in February-March of this year and will finish the piece during the residence through WorkSpace Brussels.
