Claire Croizé was born in France in 1979 and graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in 2000. She started developing her own artistic work during her last year at the school with Donne-moi quelque chose qui ne meure pas, a dance performance for five dancers. The French press hailed it as one of the discoveries of PARTS@PARIS in 2001.
Her first solo creation, Blowing up (2002) produced by PACT Zollverein (Essen) in the frame of the DEPARTS network, was one of the highlights in Monty’s 2002 Junge Hunde Festival (Young talent festival) in Antwerpen and was performed on the international scene. In 2003, Claire created the site-specific piece Runway#1, commissioned by the festival Off Limits in an ex-coal mine in Dortmund (Germany).
In 2006, Claire, supported by wp Zimmer (Antwerpen), premiered Affected in STUK (Leuven), a dance performance consisting of 3 solos set on lieders composed by Gustav Mahler. This performance marked the starting point of her collaboration with light designer Jan Maertens.
In 2007, Claire co-created Dido with Etienne Guilloteau, a video installation / performance commissioned by the Art Center Monty (Antwerpen). Dido is based on the third episode of Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas.
In 2008, Claire Croizé together with Nada Gambier and Etienne Guilloteau founded the structure Action Scénique.
In September 2009, Claire pursued her work on Gustav Mahler's music and created The Farewell, a dance solo premiered in Vooruit (Gent) set on ‘The Song of the Earth’ and on the ‘3rd movement of the 9th Symphony’. For the light design she again collaborated with Jan Maertens. Alain Franco was present as a musical advisor and Etienne Guilloteau assisted her with the dramaturgy. In 2009 The Farewell won the Prix Jardin d'Europe during the Working Title Festival (organised by workspacebrussels).
In 2011, during the Mahler Festival in CC Hasselt and the Festival van Vlaanderen in Kortrijk, Claire created a new version of The Farewell accompanied live by the ensemble Oxalys.
In 2010, the KlaraFestival and the Kaaitheater invited Claire to create the solo Vor deinem Thron, accompanied live by the Belgian baroque band B’Rock on the last compositions of Bach. For this commission Claire pursued her collaboration with Jan Maertens, Alain Franco and Etienne Guilloteau.
In January 2012, Claire created, together with Etienne Guilloteau and Alain Franco Mouvement pour quatuor for the danceXmusic 2, a collaboration between La Monnaie/De Munt and the school P.A.R.T.S. Together with 8 students from the research cycle, they created a piece set on the string quartet 1905 composed by Anton Webern that was performed live.
Currently, Claire is preparing a new group piece Chant éloigné, that will premiere on the 13th of December 2012 at the Stadschouwburg CC30 in Leuven. Next to her own artistic work, Claire will assist Nada Gambier on her new creation Fiction in Action, (coproduction workspacebrussels) that goes in première on the 23rd of November 2012 in De Singel (Antwerpen).
As a dancer Claire has worked for Caterina Sagna, Andy Deneys, Etienne Guilloteau, Hooman Sharifi, Jean-Luc Ducourt, Philippe Blanchard, Alexander Baervoets, Anabel Schellekens and Kris Verdonck.
In 2013 She will join Etienne Guilloteau’s new creation Synopsis of a battle.
