Elina Pirinen is Finnish choreographer, dancer, performer, singer-songwriter, artistic director and teacher currently living in Helsinki. Pirinen is interested in researching the relations between movement, spoken word and live music. Her stage materials often referes to contemporary, modern and classical ways of making and approaching art and performance. Her previous multidisciplinary artistic works are appreciated of their communicative, risk-taking, musical, nasty, fragile, humorous, emotional and personal touch. She studied dance and choreography in Theatre Academy Finland graduating as Master of Dance in 2008 with special studies in contemporary theatre. Side by side these studies she has been studying classical and alternative popmusic with piano,violin and voice. In next year she is also making a debut album with her orchestra. Pirinen was chosen as the dance artist of the year 2010 in Finland and has been awarded with several art grants. Pirinen is collaborating with two main production houses in Helsinki: Zodiak-Center for New Dance and Kiasma Theatre in Kiasma Museum for Contemporary Art. Within next years she is working in international collaborations.
