PRINT THIS PAGEBio
Georgia Vardarou was born in Athens, Greece in 1983. She is in touch with the world of dance since she was 4 years old. At the age of 10 she entered at the preparatory department of the State School of Dance (Κ.Σ.Ο.Τ.). At the age of 18 she entered at the professional department of the same school. After her graduation in 2004 she danced for the choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki in 'Arena Metropolity'. The same year (2004) she arrived in Brussels where she continued her studies at P.A.R.T.S. She finished both the training and the research cycle with the grant of the first scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation I.K.Y. During her studies she created, mostly in collaboration, several short pieces from which 'ETAIPA 19' (with Gilles Polet) & 'Serenity Square' (with Tassos Karahalios) toured in several festivals in Europe. In the graduation tour she danced in 'RAIN' a piece of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
After her graduation in 2008 she started working as a dancer with the choreographer Salva Sanchis (Kunst/Werk). She has been part of 'objects in mirror are closer than they appear', the sequel duet 'objects in Athens are closer than they appear', 'The Organ Project', an improvisational duet with Sanchis and the musician Kunihiko Komori in Tokyo, his last group piece 'now h e r e' and in Marc Vanrunxt’s choreography 'For Edward Krasinski'. In between she went to Copenhagen where she made the material and danced in 'Rusland', a multidisciplinary project directed by Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt. She also danced in the improvisational project of Lance Gries 'Primary Field'.
Last season she committed to the piece of research 'Hardcore Research on Dance' and created a short solo as an outcome. Nowadays she is collaborating with the sound artist Stijn Demeulenaere for the sound project 'Pressure Sequence'. In autumn 2012 Marc Vanrunxt and Salva Sanchis will each create a short solo for her. These will be both presented together with 'Hardcore Research on Dance' as one solo with the title 'TRIGON'.
With 'Hardcore Research on Dance' as the main base she will choreograph 'Phenomena'.
