Outline

The history of solo performances lies in the tradition of storytelling as a means to pass on information, myths and legends within the community.
In a solo performance the relationship and dialogue in between the performer and the audience becomes even more underlined as the solitary artist addresses the audience directly and watches them while they watch her.
In my work I am interested in the relationship in between the artist-performer and the audience both on stage as well as in the society.

Today´s society is a society of individualism and an increased emphasis is put on the image of the individual. In fact the concern for the image we project of ourselves and of who we wish to be occasionally seems to become so important that it nearly takes over the importance of life itself. The marketing and the productization of the self seems to keep people increasingly busy with their surface, not only in the world of showbusiness and entertainment but in life in general. In popular culture the overblown characterisation and selfportraying have become increasingly extreme and dramatisized over the years reaching a parodic absurdity that could occasionally even seem to be provocative. The relation that this has to sexuality and eroticism is one topic of interest for me in the research for this work. As a female artist I am also busy with the question of how women are portrayed in our society. I approach this question rather from the aspect of curiosity  then for example from the aspect of a feminist agenda.

In Dame Blanche I look into the stories of various fictional and non-fictional, strong female characters, one of them being the urban legend of the White Lady.
