Outline

The main aim of “Oh, Noh.” is to create a multimedia environment in which artists can find their ground to perform a piece, inspired by Japanese Traditional Theatre. We are interested in exploring of what is considered as a “marginal” zone of this established, traditional practice. The zones of marginal came into the official, academic discourse of arts within the feministic critique, derridian philosophy and Lacan’s psychoanalysis. Taking this theoretical background into consideration, we want to address the problematic role of women actors of Noh and a paradoxical practice of the amateurs of Noh theatre. As we do not wish to attempt to create a traditional piece but one that engages in a critical discursive performance, we have decided to introduce a new media as a part of this dialogue.
This show can be performed as a video installation or/and live performance.
To work on "Oh, Noh." performance, we will be using the original structure of Noh drama. We will explore the multiple possibilities of the progression of its performing materials (movement, music, acting connections). The tempo of a given show will not be set by one person but by interactions of all performers together. Creating the video projection, consisted of pre-recorded materials (captured in the proper/natural environment for the artist), we will be setting an interactive event-zone for both live performance and a film. We will be researching the 27 possibilities of cross action in between two levels of performance (screen versus live act).

One of the results will be a video installation composed of 3 screens, in which we see a collage/editing of the same action or its transformation in different environments.
