„We are a Project“ is a Performancetrio which is created by Valerie Oberleithner. As well as the process as the staging of the product will be accompagnied by Jennifer Lacey on various levels. Sound design and light design will be developed by Olivier Tirmarche and Henri Emmanuel Doublier in the course of the process. „We are a Project“ will be developed in the frame of residencies in Belgium, France and Austria.
„We are a Project“ is the development of a common artistic practice within a group. Throuout the practical phases in dancestudios the group will maintain the dynamic structure of choreografer, performer and audience. Dynamic insofar as it will be part of the practice to constantly change between being a choreografer, a performer and an audiencemember.
Imitation as it is practiced in a „class situation“ will be one of the main tools in the course of developing the practice. Imitation as a tool to introduce and generate material and imitation as being a „traditional“ part of a dance class which will be reflected and questioned in both an ironical and critical dimension.
„We are a Project“ is a dynamic, humorous and ironical stage object which works with a concious confrontation and collision of a dance class situation and a contemporary stage situation. „We are a Project“ stands out due to consequent work on the connection between the product and the process and the ironical and critical reflexion on the relation between the individuum and the group. To what extend does the „project“ as a phenomena of contemporary society represent the human identity?

Bio Valerie Oberleithner
Valerie Oberleithner was born in Innsbruck, lived in Germany, in the U.S. and now in Vienna. She studied Literature Science/Philology at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz and contemporary dance at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. In 2007 she received the danceWEB scholarship.
Valerie continuously works with international choreographers and dance companies in Vienna and abroad: Superamas, Jennifer Lacey, Davis Freeman, Fanni Futterknecht, Doris Stelzer, Amanda Pina, etc.
Valerie´s own artistic projects include Show Me! in collaboration with Olivier Tirmarche, Pittoresque in collaboration with Fanni Futterknecht and Splendid Isolation in collaboration with Olivier Tirmarche and Jennifer Lacey.
Splendid Isolation was presented in the context of [8:tension] Young Choreographers' Series, ImPulsTanz 2011 and at the eXplore dance festival Bucharest in October 2011.
Valerie works in Vienna, Paris and Brussels.
