Bio

Marah Haj Hussein is A 24-year-old Palestinian dancer and maker from Kofor Yassif- occupied Palestine. In 2021 she a Bachelor in Dance at the Conservatory of Antwerp. She is now completing her Master's in Drama at KASK university in Gent.
She took part in the DanceWeb scholarship program 2019 at Impulstanz International Dance Festival in Vienna-Austria as well as the DOTE (Dancing on the edge) scholarship program 2020 in Amsterdam (Online version due to Covid-19).

In her own research Marah is interested in the concept of mother tongue. She created the duet Zait Zaytoun (2021) - in collaboration with Mokhallad Rasem and Kilma hilwa (a pretty word)#1 (2021)- a group piece performed by non-Arabic speaking dancers. After researching on Arabic language in her last year of the dance bachelor, she decided to start a master's in theater this year. Her main interest lies in exploring different ways of using language on stage, while questioning at the same time the difference between theater making and choreographing. She made In exile (2022)- a solo performance where the physicality, accompanied by words in different languages, define a territory of exile.

Besides her own works, she is currently performing in the piece TH LNG GDBY by Tuur Marinus and Another Sacre coached by Alain Platel & Berengere Bodin.
