Bio

Based in Brussels and Zurich, Tumbleweed is a collaboration between the Swiss choreographer and dancer Angela Rabaglio and French choreographer, dancer and musician Micaël Florentz. Both were brought through different ways to the field of choreography and complete each other with their respective backgrounds. They founded Tumbleweed in 2017 and started developing its artistic vision.

The Gyre is their first production, which has premiered in November 2018 and played over 40 performances in Europe and the Middle East, as well as has won two awards (Petites Scènes Ouvertes, RIDCC). It already defines extensively the choreographers’ interests and ambitions: they develop a movement language inspired by their travels, by science, nature and philosophy.

Angela Rabaglio
(1990, Switzerland) is a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher living in Brussels. She graduated as a dancer at the AHK in Amsterdam and obtained her Bachelor diploma in contemporary dance in 2013. Upon that she created her first Solo wind-up birds and polaroids, which she performed at several festivals in Europe. She received the Encouragement Prize at the Barnes Crossing Solo Duo Festival in Cologne and the Audience Prize in Budapest at the SzoloDuo Festival. Since 2014, she has been dancing with Company Alias in Geneva (Guilherme Botelho), as well as more recently with Cie Ici’Bas and Prototype Status in Switzerland. In the past she participated in diverse projects and collaborations, with Mitia Fedotenko, Itamar Serussi, Ingrid Berger Myhre and LaborGras among others, as well as in several improvisation performances with the experimental jazz collective Bloom and the Swiss musician Simon Berz. Thanks to different influences in dance and other sources of movement inspirations (martial arts, climbing, yoga, dabké) she is developing gradually her personal physical practice, by melting old and new traditions. Angela occasionally teaches workshops and classes for (semi-)professional dancers, circus students and children.

Micaël Florentz
(1988, France) is a freelance artist living in Brussels. He has a musical background and over the last years has dedicated himself to his proper music compositions (guitar, voice, electronic music), performing in France and Belgium, mainly as a solo artist. Since 2014, he has been diving into a profound physical research and is developing his proper language in dance, through autonomous training, following classes and workshops, and founding the company Tumbleweed. The same curiosity he is manifesting for all kind of sound creations, he brings along into his choreographic research, together with a solid knowledge of composition. Movement has always been a fascinating and necessary part of his life, but only since he has started dancing, he began to define his energy traveling through the body and canalizing it into creative spaces. At the same time, he is profiting from the absence of the codified movement vocabulary and is gradually collecting and carving his proper tools. He is regarding dance as a continuity of his present artistic parkour.
