Jean

For Europalia Trains&Tracks 2021, Rita Hoofwijk is developing an alternative journey planner in the train, called Jean. Instead of getting an overview of a train journey in hours/minutes and the number of changes, the traveller is introduced to a different experience of time. Jean becomes a fellow traveller, a guide who stops time with you, for the duration of a train ride. The degree of interaction is determined by the traveller himself, but there is the possibility to be accompanied during the entire train ride. The project is inspired by a manifesto on time perception by Jean Tinguely, whose oeuvre consists largely of moving machines.
