Long Voyage Home

A physical and poetic performance about coming home in an unstable reality.

Marthe and Gerben long for something to hold on to. Certainty is scarce, yet they want to understand, predict and pin down the world. They hold up the mask of reality whilst the solid surface trembles in their hands; ready to burst apart. What if it is precisely this precariousness and instability that turn out to be our greatest source of stability? In Long Voyage Home, we enter a world that has let go of its fixed form.

With humour and absurdity, Gerben Vaillant and Marthe Koning navigate this unstable reality. As people and performers, they seek a fluid form that is just as unpredictable as the world around them. They move with playful abandon between dance, song and play, whilst the falling theatre curtains represent an ever-shifting, amorphous world.

Long Voyage Home is a tribute to the fragility of the inner and outer worlds. Not a promise of certainty, but a momentary respite.
