By what routes can we escape from the homeland to Mother Earth? Should we teach ourselves new languages there?

Moddertong is narrative theatre in Flemish, interspersed with other languages. It relates loosely to the triangle of concepts 'mother', 'language' and 'earth'. A storyteller sits with the audience around a pile of stuff. The light will change; some things will move; footnotes will run away from the text. By what routes can we escape the homeland towards Mother Earth? Do we have to teach ourselves new languages there? What should we unlearn there? Moddertong tries to connect words and things, audience and speaker, people and the ground they are on.

Under the same title, Sébastien Hendrickx will work for several years on this performance, which will take on ever-changing forms under the influence of ongoing research and constantly changing circumstances. Moddertong does not have its 'premiere' and then go on 'tour'; each new showing is a fully-fledged performance.
