Over the last years, Naïma Mazic went from simply analyzing what it means to move on-, with- or against a beat and an offbeat, to the idea of speeding up and or slowing down time within time. This research started with her interest in Jazz Music and its relationship to Dance. It resulted in creating Polymeters within one body. Naïma Mazic understood how important it is for dancers to have control over the rhythmic grid and therefore to not only be a follower of the music, but also to become a leader. Dancers need to go away from automatization and tendencies, especially towards the 8 count, therefore being able to open up to uncommon and overlapping meters and rhythms in dance. This made her question: How can the pulse and the responsibility for the pulse be shared between dancers and musicians? How can dancers establish different time-meters in one body? How can dancers work polyrhythmically and polymetrically and how can music and dance communicate within that?

At workspacebrussels she will start her new research on PoLy-Mirrors with the composer and musicians Vincent Pongracz and the visual artist Lola Drubigny. Together they will work on the music and sounds created by different mirrors.
