Work in Progress: Funnel of Love
Welcome to the work-in-progress sharing of Mira Maria Studer's new work Funnel of Love on Tuesday 12 May.
Funnel of Love is a performative research departing from a physical exploration of two voices: nature yodelling, a slow yodel style without lyrics, and the chanting of sports fans. In the focus lies the phenomenon of belonging through sound, collective expression of emotion and vocal techniques that reach/resonate through topographic, architectural and socio-cultural distances. A phenomenon that can be heard in the roar of the masses on the stadium’s terrace, in a “nationalist” cultural practice in the mountains, but also in the streets during protests. Fieldtrips in the city with friends searching for this vocal event build the departure point for performative reflections in the studio.
Mira Maria Studer (1996) creates performative works that play with modes of address from both singing and contemporary dance. Born in Solothurn (CH) with Peruvian roots, she is currently based in Brussels. After being trained in music and singing, they completed a B.A. in contemporary dance at La Manufacture in Lausanne (CH), continued training at La Faktoria in Pamplona (ES), and received an M.A. from P.A.R.T.S. (BE). Mira is part of the Swiss based performance collective noDIN, together with Sophie Germanier, Dustin Kenel and Yadin Akira Bernauer. She loves karaoke.
