Salon #1: Why we keep doing it
ArtistsPRINT THIS PAGE
Salon is a meeting place for artists from different disciplines and backgrounds. For every salon, an artist is invited to formulate a question for the participants, based on their artistic work. As a nomadic project, Salon has no fixed location, and so becomes a guest of different organizations in the Brussels artistic landscape. In the context of the cultural festival Bewogen, Salon organises its first edition together with workspacebrussels.
The theme of the first salon will be introduced by artist Nassia Fourtouni and is probably best articulated as 'Why we keep doing it'. We investigate questions on the personal within the artistic process, on the social / vocational and simply on the madness (obsession? pain? hurt? different thinking?) inherent to artistic creation.
Nassia Fourtouni is a dance researcher, dramaturge and performer based in Brussels. As a writer, she has collaborated with Athens Festival, Kalamata Dance Festival and workspacebrussels. She was a participant in the third cycle of the program Critical Practice made in YU and has collaborated with Ellen Söderhult, Eleanor Bauer and Alice Chauchat in the open source project Nobody’s Dance. She has co-written texts with Nina Gojic and Elena Novakovic, and has worked with Stefan Jovanovic, Andonis Foniadakis, Antigone Michalakopoulou and Effie Theodorou as a dramaturg and artistic advisor. She received the Impulstanz Danceweb scholarship in 2016. Currently she is working as a dramaturge with Marialena Marouda in the project Oceanographies and is an artistic researcher at the a.pass (advanced performance and scenography studies) post master program in Brussels, developing a project on dramaturgical practice informed by somatic methods.
