Colin Hector van Eeckhout is most known as the singer and main artist behind the prolific post metal band AMENRA. Creating his own ‘Church of Ra’ he gave birth to an artistic collective existing of musicians, video artists, painters, graphic designers and photographers. The strength of his work is being the consistent and a perfect harmony of art/esthetics, meaning and the sound. Among other project he develops his solo project: mixing folk and trancelike ambient - by means of percussion, vocals and hurdy gurdy. He is always on the lookout for cross media collaborations and projects worldwide. He collaborated, among others, with photographer Willy Vanderperre, sculptor Berlinde de Bruyckere and painter Michael Borremans. Whatever project of CHVE we talk about, his music is constantly devastating and brutally honest. He creates music in order to describe what lies beyond what can’t be grasped by words. Through the years of work, AMENRA gained their international critical acclaim and now they are a true world-player in their musical genre. Many international tours and releases prove interest in their work, which is constantly growing and ever present.
Always on his side is Mathieu Vandekerckhove: guitar player of AMENRA, and solo creator of SYNDROME – an audiovisual outfit perfectly mixing sound and image/film. Mathieu made several films- cores and soundtracks, mastering the soundscaping like no other. His work could be described as massive sound, that constantly trespasses the post-rock, drone, ambient, and doom territories; as meditative drones and deep, subtle melodies, blurring lines between ambient and postrock music.
Recently both formed the band “Absent in Body” with Neurosis frontman - Scott Kelly, who can be considered as one of the most important men in metal-music history, inventing the musical genre “post metal”.
Both CHVE and MVDK played in many (inter)national festivals such as: OYA Festival, Hellfest, Pukkelpop, Dour, Boomtown etc. International tours included among others: Moscow, London, New York, Paris, Milan, Porto.
AMENRA was formed 18 yours ago, in 1999. Before that, both Colin and Mathieu, were a part of a straight edge hardcore scene -very popular in Belgium in the late nineties. Both played in the band Spineless. Around that time they met Bjorn Lescouhier, drummer and percussionist in then popular band Short Sight. After 20 years they found each-other again and re-started collaboration, building further on the foundation they built two decades ago.
