Daniel Kok read BA (Honours) Fine Art & Critical Theory at Goldsmiths College (London) and has a Certificate in Choreography from the Laban Centre. In 2008, he was the laureate of the Young Artist Award from National Arts Council (Singapore). In 2012, Daniel received an MA (Distinction) in Solo/Dance/Authorship (SODA) at the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT, Berlin). In 2014, he completed the Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies (APASS) in Brussels.
His creation "Q&A", commissioned by Singapore Arts Festival in 2009, has performed in Edinburgh, Lisbon, Hong Kong, Berlin, Vienna, Bangkok, Yokohama and Seoul. "The Gay Romeo", selected as Priority Company for the Aerowaves European Network, has performed in Berlin, Tokyo, Ljubljana and will be presented in Moscow, Sydney, Jakarta and Bruges in 2014. His latest work, “Cheerleader of Europe” is supported by Nadine (Brussels), workspacebrussels and PACT Zollverein (Essen). The work was recently given a pre-premiere at TanzHaus Zurich and will premiere at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin in May 2014.
An avid pole dancer, he won the SG Pole Challenge 2012 and represented Singapore at the Finals of the International Pole Championships 2013. His contemporary pole dance creation was presented as part of “X-Choreografen” (2012) in the Tanz Im August / TanzNacht festivals in Berlin. In 2014, he will collaborate with Arco Renz (BE) and Eisa Jocson (PH) to create pole duet “ALPHA”, co-produced by Esplanade (Singapore) and KobaltWorks (Belgium).
His new creation, “PIIGS” is a cheerleading team project co-produced by workspacebrussels under Life Long Burning, a cultural initiative of the European Union. It will premiere at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin in 2015.
