Sonia Si Ahmed (1973, D/DZ)
studied dance at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg, where she graduated in 1999. She's been based in Brussels since 2000. She has worked as a dancer in several projects with choreographers such as Sonja Augart, Julien Bruneau, Alexander Baervoets, Liesbeth Koot, Vloeistof and others. In 2002 she work as a choreographer on Tempo, a production of Stichting Muzaik, with three dancers. In 2004 she made a solo in a train station called Zug. Within « Rubber Duck vzw », an organization she co-founded in 2006, she created I saw you at the annual diving contest... (2006) together with Kasia Rausz: 4 different solos within the same frame setting. She later created Marshmallow (2007), a reflection on vulnerability. She's currently working on the urban performance project Local Hero and on The Greater with Maya Dalinsky.
Maya Dalinsky (1981, US)
was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland. She studied dance and music as a child and French and German as a young adult. In 2005 she moved to Europe to work as a translator and performer, and has been based in Brussels since autumn 2008. Maya works mainly in improvisation and has collaborated with a number of movers and thinkers who've deeply influenced her practice, a.o. Rosalind Crisp, David Hernandez, Anouk Llaurens and Julien Bruneau. In 2007 she performed in Sonia Si Ahmed's Marshmallow; in 2008 she made her acting debut in Silent Decades by Playtime Films; and since 2009 she's been developing the solo series Finding the Real Dance and All I Need Is Here, as well as improvising with musicians, notably with pianist Rory Cowal and guitarist Alec Ilyine. Current projects include The Greater with Sonia Si Ahmed (supported by Netwerk centrum voor hedendaagse kunst in Aalst, Bains Connective and Workspace Brussels), Julien Bruneau's phréatiques and dancing in De Maan's puppet-and-dance piece for children, In Jouw Schoenen.
Rubber Duck vzw
was co-founded by Sonia Si Ahmed in 2006. The association is dedicated to developing performance work in which communication with the public is promoted through research and artistic experimentation.Last updated : 14/11/2017
