- CALCULATED RISK
CALCULATED RISKPRINT THIS PAGE
Calculated Risk uses various media (film, theatre, performance, installation, poetry and public intervention) to investigate how we – as human beings – constantly keep ourselves in balance, constantly threaten to fall, and how we simultaneously protect ourselves against our own vulnerability and fragility.
The public action, for which Vandenberghe jumps down from a certain height in public space and wrapped in bubble plastic, is the core of the project. In the performance you can follow the maker who investigates the risks and dangers of his fall through conversations with experts: physicists, doctors, insurers, producers of bubble wrap and other material – but also philosophers, scientists and traumatologists . The performance takes place at the crossroads between falling and balancing, between danger and self-protection. Kasper Vandenberghe investigates what the performance-artist can mean, beyond protest, shock effect, aesthetic object, entertainer – and how he can connect people. At the same time, it is a highly personal reflection on his own vulnerability and courage to take risks.
