LINE DESCRIBING A CONEPRINT THIS PAGE
Line Describing a Cone is a landmark in the expanded cinema of the early 1970's. By deleting the projection screen and reducing the content of the projection to a slowly progressing line, Anthony McCall changes our notions of projection drastically. Due to the smoke present in the space the lightprojection takes a three dimensional form and becomes almost tangible. The audience is no longer a mere passive onlooker in the dark, but stands literally in the focal point of the screening when they cross the space. In this performative installation a minimal cinematographical setup generates an endless amount of shapes, constellations and possibilities.
