Last updated : 15/05/2017PRINT THIS PAGEOutline
In the workshop Staging Documentary Niko Hafkenscheid will share his experiences dealing with documentary and will invite the participants to some practical exercises through which they can develop a staged documentary setup of their own. The workshop focusses on how documentary- and archive material can be staged. In close collaboration with the other participants the workshop will explore and address several dimension of working with archive material. What and how do you document? How do you make a selection? And what is performative and poetic potential of documentary material? These are the issues that Niko wants to put on the table and work on with all the participants.
Niko Hafkenscheid is an artist, musician and journalist. Together with photographer Pablo Castilla and Hedvig Biong, he developed SYDEN, a series of creative documentary setups that investigate the utopia of Western tourism. In 2014-2015 they conducted a series of interviews with tourists in the South of Spain and produced a series of images of the environment. In 2016/2017, this material was developed into an interactive reading room, a music performance based on interview texts, and public interventions in the city with banners.
