- THE PAIN OF OTHERS
THE PAIN OF OTHERSPRINT THIS PAGE
Artist and philosopher Peter Aers runs a special and separate practice. With the development of the conversational performances Everything Depends on How a Thing is Thought, and earlier work in the series of Exercises in Disappearing, he creates quirky work on the borders of performance, participation and reflection. Not only the performances, but also the specific collaborations with therapeutic communities, prison inmates, a Socratic conversation companion, scientists… are exceptional. The creation of the conversation is associated with a long-term performative and artistic work that postulates the dialogue with people. This not always visible web of conversations and mutual influences belong to the core of his artistic process.
“To look these things squarely in the face would need the courage of a lion tamer.” In the conversational performance The Pain of Others, Peter Aers questions the (im)possibility of knowing the inner sensations of another being, how to imagine a space for pain and the limits of language.
