YOU'RE WELCOMEPRINT THIS PAGE
In Tale Dolven and Gabel Eiben’s first collaboration,You’re welcome, they aim at joining theatre and dance in an examination of their common home: the stage. All the elements relevant to a performance will be addressed and no corner of the stage will be left uncovered. They are looking at the performance space with curiosity, as if it is completely alien. The same curiosity is shared between the performers themselves and with the audience.
The physical space where we rehearse are often relegated to necessity and rarely observed as inspiration, but we see these as subject matter as well. In the performance we hope to elevate the commonplace to a new height of appreciation. The performance takes on the form of games where surprising occurrences can happen live. We thought coordination tasks, floor patterns, and incorporating text can have the enjoyment of games depending how we, as performers, relate to them. In the performance we hope to elevate the commonplace to a new height of appreciation. The result maintains the rigor and precision of focused work, but appears both creative and playful. The piece combines a theatrical approach to a choreographed structure. Text from a lecture by scientist Leonard Susskind on quantum mechanics adds another dimension to a physical performance.
The actual simplicity of the show is of its essence; using very simple, yet intelligent material, the tool of minimalism and repetition is used to challenge our need for renewal. The piece pushes our relation to time, as it changes just when you thought it wouldn’t. It is a playful exploration of the theatre, the performers relation to the audience and the construction of a choreography. In a simple scenography You’re welcome moves through stars and black holes to a Super Mario-like water world, and back to the theatre where we welcome the audience to our show.
