With Preview Stereoscope Project the brothers Tuur and Flup Marinus give an insight into their new project.

Tuur and Flup Marinus - Stereoscope Project 16:9

With the precision of medieval copyists, they reproduce old stereoscope cards. These cards were popular in the nineteenth century, because they create a 3D experience avant-la-lettre: by means of a stereoscope you can view two photos of the same image at the same time, which creates depth vision. The project is an extension of Tuur and Flups’ earlier series Belgian Congo Belge, for which they repainted an entire stamp collection from the colonial era in trompe-l’oeuil style. This time the viewing of the paintings also contains a performative element: the spectators set up the stereoscopes to activate the 3D image and thus turn the exhibition into a kind of masked ball at the same time.
