A Number of Contradictions, Ignorances and Oddities (WoWmen!)
What does ‘sustainable community living’ mean? At what point is a relationship sustainable and according to whom?
As we all know, if you want to keep someone in the country, you can’t marry for papers only. You are expected to endure a ‘sustainable community living’, at least that is what Belgian law prescribes. Otherwise the relationship would be seen as fake and therefore fall into the category of fictitious marriages. But what if you have two artists and one of them has no permission to stay in the country and the other one believes her stay will be one step closer to sustainable community living?
In 2018, Kim Snauwaert and Anyuta Wiazemsky Snauwaert decided to get married for exactly this reason. But what does ‘sustainable community living’ mean? At what point is a relationship sustainable and according to whom? In this performance the artists tell their story and further unveil their artistic premises.
