Never Walk Alone #3: Light Displacement
The starting point for this film are Meggy Rustamova’s numerous attempts to photograph a tree in Hiroshima, Japan.
The audiovisual trip highlights aspects of the imagination through photography, film and sound. Today’s nuclear threats and wars are translated into the white, overexposed photos, which turn into a complete ‘white-out’.
Although the place where the photographs were taken is weighed down by the history of the atomic bomb, this act of capturing a simple tree is an expression of the reconstruction and modernisation of a once devastated landscape. This ‘banal’ tree could actually stand in any country and thus embodies the universal character of a landscape in this world.
