I AM A PERMANENT MEMBER

Learning to deal with the catastrophic consequences of climate change in daily life

GASTSTUBE - I AM A PERMANENT MEMBER 16:9

Living in permanent catastrophes has become a daily routine we do not want to get used to. Alive, we experience ourselves on a burning globe, and alive, we know it will burn for the rest of our days. As permanent members of this fate, humans are adapting, balancing through the abyss, still finding ways for pleasures, resistance, perpetuating it, or trying to ignore the harm.

GASTSTUBE° works on balancing. Is it possible to ‘balance’ elements within multiple disasters? Can we find an equilibrium between contradicting discourses, objects, and desires? Or is that just inadequate cowardice? Can balance be found in an utterly imbalanced world, and who shall search for it? What is the fully aware walk on the fine line into known catastrophes? What is the role of subtlety and tenderness in a field of violence and destruction?

With the chapter ‘Balancing’ in their life-long performance project, I AM A PERMANENT MEMBER, GASTSTUBE° seeks for politics and play of persistence. They look for ways to perform between elements of decay and hope. And they look for being performed by them. As part of their residency, the collective GASTSTUBE° explores the exchange and development of micro-rituals, attitudes, and actions to learn to deal with the catastrophic consequences of climate change in daily life.
