Together with a small group of participants, caterina daniela mora jara delves into her essay Conflicted Embodiment: Notes from Dancing on Both Sides of the Atlantic, published in September 2023. What do 'folklore', 'popular', and 'academic' mean within the different dance contexts of the global North and South? What mother tongues reside in dance and performance? And what role can translation play? By embracing the complexity of the untranslatable, the investigation explores how 'conflicted embodiment' can serve as a research tool for understanding how a body navigates through migration, colonialism, and dance.

From 2021 to 2023, caterina daniela mora jara was one of the house artists at workspacebrussels. Her trajectory culminated in a publication that serves as the inspiration for this reading group. In her work, caterina interrogates the dominant ways of producing work and the colonial legacy in the representation of Western dance in her work. She is currently pursuing a doctorate at Uniarts / Stockholm University of the Arts.
