soft sticky stamina song

soft sticky stamina song is a research on a performative method. Built on the foundations of the power ballad, this hybrid practice researches how to sing a dance and how to dance a song.

Inspired by the embodying of songs done by Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson and Meredith Monk I am researching the sensorial immediacy of my performativity. In our current society based on excess and overproduction the result is a steady loss of sharpness in our sensorial experience. An overstimulated on-line generation that, due to pandemic measures, has even more departed from real life encounters. A zeitgeist with the hyper focus on virtual stimulus. I want to counter this tendency with the sensorial experience of the power ballad. At Workspace Brussels I will develop a series of songs that build sensual worlds. The research goes into a performative method where there is an intertwined state between body, voice and lyrics. This auditive dance challenges not what it ‘says’ but what it ‘does’. ‘soft sticky stamina song’ will aim for the visceral interaction between performer and spectator. By holding two rocks I seek leverage in deep nature, to let the voice erupt and the body bend. Questioning how to draw landscapes of sensuality in a time where our senses have been washed over by screens, walls and windows.
