Apply for a residency

Are you an artist from the performing arts and looking for a studio in Brussels? Twice a year we invite artists to share a project proposal with us via our open call.

Our open call is aimed at offering residency space. This means that in principle no production, financial or technical support is provided at the outset. The open call allows us to offer workspace to a wide variety of artists and leaves room within our organization for the unexpected. We see a residency as an introduction to your work or artistic practice.

What do we offer during a residency?

  • When your project is selected, we will search together for the right space in the right period. We try to find at least two consecutive working weeks for each project, depending on the needs.
  • To the extent possible, we provide basic technical material, such as a sound system, micro, projector and so on.
  • We provide accommodation for non-Belgian residents (max. 4 people).
  • All projects are followed up by the artistic coordinator and can rely on basic dramaturgical support from the house dramaturge.
  • We invite you to share your practice or work with us at the end of the residency. This can also take the form of a public try-out.
  • Once a week we invite you for lunch together with all the other residents who are working in our studios at that moment.

How to apply?

You can apply by filling out our application form. With this form we want to get to know you a little better. You can tell us about your artistic practice, who you are working with and what you are working on. We'll ask you to include a description of your project. If you wish you can attach a CV, an artistic dossier and/or video recordings of your work. This information will be the basis of our selection. Furthermore we'll ask you some practical questions about your project, just to make sure we can offer you what you need.

What is the deadline?

  • Fall & Winter Residencies: 1 March 2020 (deadline at 10pm): for residencies between 1 September 2020 and 1 March 2021. Announcement of the selection: 22 April 2020. This call is now closed.
  • Spring & Summer Residencies: 1 October 2020: for residencies between 1 March 2021 and 1 September 2021. The application form for this round will be published on 1 September 2020.

Can I apply more than once?

It is possible to submit multiple applications at the same time for different projects. Please be aware that it is not possible to submit more than two rounds for the same project. A third application in a row for the same project is therefore not admissible.

Answer & feedback

The selection is made by workspacebrussels in collaboration with an external dramaturge. We treat all applications equally and will answer your question no later than 8 weeks after the deadline. We are grateful for the many inspiring and exciting project proposals we receive each year. Unfortunately we receive many more requests than we have space available. Due to this large number, personal feedback after a negative answer is not possible.
