How to apply for a residency
Are you active in the performing arts as an artist, arts worker or researcher? And are you looking for studio time in Brussels? Find out how to share an idea, research or project with us here. We review applications with care and curiosity.
Overview
There are four types of residency:
- A studio residency for research or creation, in collaboration with our structural partners Kaaitheater, Rosas, Les Brigittines, and Ultima Vez.
- An embedded residency in healthcare, in collaboration with KAOS.
- An embedded residency in public space, in collaboration with Cultureghem.
- An embedded residency at Decoratelier.
Separate calls are issued for each type.
Type #1: Studio residency
- For research and creation
- Timing: 2 open calls per year, next deadline 1 December (applications possible from 1 September onwards)
- Location: Ultima Vez, Rosas, Kaaistudios or Les Brigittines (view studios)
- Duration: around two weeks (multiple residencies are sometimes possible)
- Accommodation: only for residents based abroad and depending on availability in our guesthouse
- Budget: flat fee of €750 for small expenses such as travel and/or lunch
Type #2: Embedded residency in healthcare, with KAOS
- Timing next round: 2026-2027
- Location: KAOS / PSC St.-Alexius (1050 Elsene / Ixelles)
- Duration: to be discussed, depending on the proposal
- Accommodation: optional in a cohousing together with seven persons with a mental vulnerability
- Budget: (part-time) salary following PC 304
- Application deadline: to be announced
Type #3: Embedded residency in public space, with Cultureghem
- Timing: September-December 2026
- Application deadline: 31 May 2026
- Location: Cultureghem / Abattoir (Anderlecht)
- Duration: 1 month full time or 2 months halftime
- Accommodation: no
- Budget: salary following PC 304
Type #4: Embedded residency at Decoratelier
- For scenographic, building and spatial research
- Timing: 3 until 25 October 2026 or 21 September - 9 October 2026 (update!)
- Application deadline: 31 May 2026
- Location: Decoratelier, Molenbeek
- Accommodation: no
- Budget: €5.000
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply more than once?
It is possible to submit multiple applications at the same time for different projects. Please be aware that it is not possible to submit more than two rounds for the same project. A third application in a row for the same project is therefore not admissible.
Selection & feedback
The selection is made by a rotating team. Unfortunately we receive many more requests than we have space available. Although we are grateful for the many inspiring and exciting project proposals we receive each year, personal feedback after a negative answer is therefore not possible.
