Bio

Haman Mpadire is an emerging artist, performance maker and choreographer born inBuwenge, Eastern Uganda originally from Busoga tribe. He became interested in dancethrough his mother who mastered folk genre aesthetics of dance and mentored by his fatherwho was a boxer during the late 1980’s. Graduating in MA Choreography at ICI CCN - PaulValéry University Montpellier. He studied contemporary dance at L’Ecole des Sables,danceWEB Scholarship recipient. African Culture Fund Grantee, Artist recipient at FoundationHérmes, Visa for creation laureate program of French institute Paris, He was announced asinternational performance Award winner for his work Land of Soga. Haman situates the body,soundscape, tangible objects, scenography and writings to narrate fiction and non-fictionalcontemporary stories, multi-tasking socio-political and cultural issues in between past,present and perception of the future. His work also explores, representation of Africanbodies, animistic notions of Busoga and multifaceted relationship between identity, visibilityand colonialism, attempting to break glass ceiling of history and stereotype.
