(bb)

(bb) is: the need for each other; an encouragement for each other; unclear boundaries between bromance and romance; a brotherhood/sisterhood manifesting between sound and dance; the other’s babe or baby; the rhythm that one does not understand, only feels.

(bb) - Tiran Willemse 16:9

The collaboration between the dancer and director Tiran Willemse and the musician Nkisi was inspired by the idea of 'backup': In (bb) it is about stepping back and highlighting everything that is not center stage, in order to give space instead to the supporting structures in the theater. The performance explores the dialogue between sound and dance, penetrating and transforming each other and constantly evolving in forms and textures.

created by tiran and Nkisi.
(bb) for babe or baby - B stands in the shadow of A, as A will forever be first and B will be second. Therefore B is in need of another b; (bb) encouraging one another. (bb) as brotherhood and sisterhood manifested between sound (Nkisi) and dance (tiran) - one another’s babe or baby.

Imagine a space exploring bromance/romance, as the unclear boundaries existing aroundfriendship, as the partnership of sound and dance. The dancer is in dialogue with a laptop, witha sound designer creating music, a duet of multiple electric energies. The idea of light becomingsound, becoming dance, the technician becoming sound, the dance becoming music. tiran andNkisi explore these intertwined connections by relating to one another through performativegestures.

The concept is inspired by the idea of the “backup”. (bb) is about taking steps back to givespace and highlight connecting structures of brotherhood and sisterhood within the theatre.Everything that is not center stage of a performative situation: may it be a backup singer, stageengineer, cleaner, technician, a ticketing person, light or costume designer. (bb) is the beat thatcontinues in the background when the soloist stops singing; the rhythm that you don'tunderstand but just feel; feelings faster than an algorithm; unwinding cables, the sound or figurethat carries the situation simply by support.

(bb) works in the operating fringes, the edges of representation, infiltrating one anotherbareback (becoming one) and transforming independently as well as together, evolving intoforms and textures of support. How does communal support relate to blackness? How does therelation of music and dance unfold in a indigenous practice? How do people relate to eachother, to land and identify.
