Maayii ميّي

Maayii ميّي is the common word for water both in Congolese Lingala and Levantine Arabic. Maayii ميّي is a piece that explores the fluid ranges of anger, love, resistance, confrontation, ritual and solidarity. Drawing from the rhythmic structures of Dabke (folkdance of Bilad Al-Sham), along with repetitive stomps and gestures from central African practices, merged with experimental feedback loops, Cheng, Kongi, and Nancy create a space for collective processing in a world ravaged by greed and silencing. Maayii ميّي serves as a space for reflection and a platform for imagined liberation; an ode to our peoples in our geographies and the diaspora.
