The Hero's Journey Of Anastacia
The Hero's Journey of Anastacia is a performing arts production at the intersection of text, dance and music.
The subject and also starting point for the dance is the Brazilian mythical figure of Escrava Anastacia, who succumbed to tetanus. As a narrative, the makers follow the 17 steps that all myths have in common according to literary scholar Joseph Campbell in his publication The Hero's Journey. And to leave no stone unturned they use the tetralemma theory to look at their (fallen) heroine and arrive at a complex perspective. In the creation period, they let this complexity come back in the text, but also in atmosphere/music and choreography.
