Art Goss - Curriculum Veto

Curriculum Veto takes as its starting point the CV: the ultimate, universally recognised, individualised standard that conditions labour. The abbreviation for the Latin ‘curriculum vitae’, or, ‘the course of life’; its name implies a consolidation of life and work. Curriculum Veto starts by critically investigating this conceptual entanglement.

During their residency at workspacebrussels, Art Goss is writing a performance that explores the theatrics of the CV. In particular, they are focussing on the CV as one of the main tools upholding the myth of meritocracy. They are working with the canonisation of Leonardo da Vinci as the inventor of the artists’ CV; the theatrics of bluffing; the CV as confessional literature; and women’s position on the labour market. With Curriculum Veto, they propose that each Vitae should have its Veto counterpart, documenting refusal, unpaid labour, and forms of work normally obscured.

During this Open Studio, Art Goss performs a work in progress.
