Christian Bakalov

Bio

Christian Bakalov (1973, Sofia) works as a performer for artists such as Ivo Dimchev, Jan Fabre, Miet Warlop, Jérôme Bel, Robert Wilson and Vincent Riebeek / Florentina Holzinger. In 2014, he developed BRIGHT, his first immersive installation, in which the audience plays the leading role. Immersed in vast dark spaces full of phosphorescent signs, the most banal and daily objects become enchanted and estranged. Blurring the boundaries between performative action and installation, Bakalov develops a series of methods to introduce the audience into a poetic universe by addressing them one-on-one through different senses. PURE is the second part of Bakalov’s trilogy inspired by Spinoza's conception of eternity. It is an ongoing artistic process that takes different shapes in each context. The third and last part of the trilogy, ETERNAL, will be created in 2019.
