Ahmed Ben Abid

Ahmed Ben Abid is a Tunisian performer and interdisciplinary artist based in Tunis. His practice develops at the intersection of dance, sound, and media art, bringing together hip-hop culture, contemporary dance, experimental sound, technology, and visual media. He approaches the body as a space where personal experience, social realities, memory, and political and economic conditions can be embodied and transformed through movement.

Ahmed began his dance training at the Mediterranean Center for Contemporary Dance (CMDC) in 2013 and joined Sybel Ballet Theatre Company in 2014. He also studied at the Higher Institute of Multimedia Arts of Manouba (ISAMM), where he developed a background in multimedia and media arts. His artistic journey has since evolved through performance, choreography, research, and interdisciplinary experimentation.

Coming from hip-hop and breaking practices while being trained in contemporary dance, he explores the dialogue between different movement languages, using improvisation, rhythm, physical states, and everyday gestures as tools for choreographic research.

His work also integrates sound and DIY technologies. He experiments with sampling, archival recordings, electronic sound, video, and interactive systems, often developing his own technical tools to create relationships between movement, sound, image, and technology. Through this interdisciplinary approach, he explores how the body can become both a performer and a medium for transmitting memory, experience, and lived realities.
