Gry Tingskog
Gry Tingskog (they/them) designs darknesses and choreographs multi-sensory experiences to be perceived inside them, weaving together dance, textile sculpture, light, technology and programming. Gry thinks choreographically across various mediums and takes on different roles in different collaborations. Their works have been presented internationally in theaters, museums and galleries.
Gry engages with dancing as something starting on the level of perception. Their work explores sensorial ambiguity, perceptual uncertainty and choreographies of attention, devising experimental set-ups to perceive what we cannot sense directly, and to put processes of sense-making at stake. Gry crafts large-scale interactive sculptures and explores them as technologies for movement, asking how choreographic parameters can be held by an object, shared through touch rather than language, and interpreted through the dancer’s sensory processing.
By crafting how various scenic mediums come together to choreograph the audience’s perception and attention in the dark, Gry explores how a dance can take place more in the body and imagination of the audience, than on stage in front of them. In this way, their works invoke situations in which imagination is not only possible, but necessary.
Gry was an artist-in-residence at K3 Tanzplan in Hamburg 2025-2026. They hold an MA in Choreography and Performance from Gießen and a BA in Dance Performance from DOCH, Stockholm University of the Arts.
