Iris Donders

Bio

Iris Donders (she/her) is a transdisciplinary artist. Her practice explores relationships with(in) the more-than-human worlds, grounded in material-based research. She traces the journeys of materials—their past, their present, and the futures they might inhabit. Through this process, she unravels the stories embedded within them, questioning their transformations, geographic movements, and the ways we relate to them. In performance, installations, and cooking, these narratives unfold with a focus on sensorial experience.

Iris is a member of the NOON collective. The collective has created several performative installations and publications. Together, they experiment with hosting people in (fictional) spaces centred around relationality, ecology, and care. They are currently working on a new piece, and now the beginning is somewhere else, which immerses the audience in a world shaped by variations on the logics of foam.

She is also collaborating with Stef Assandri on The Echoes of Silence, a long-term research-creation project developed with transatlantic ingredients. Each stage of the process unfolds in different forms of sharing: readings, publications, installations, performances, dialogues, and dinners.

As a teacher, including at BRONKS, she works with young children, guiding them to co-create performances through the use of materials, imagination, and fantasy.

In 2021, she obtained a Master’s degree in Autonomous Design from KASK in Ghent (BE), and previously completed a Bachelor in Communication & Multimedia Design at HU University of Applied Sciences (NL).
