Niko Hafkenscheid
Bio
Niko Hafkenscheid has been active as a performer and creator in the international arts field for 20 years. His work is consistently transdisciplinary, exploring the symbols and layers of meaning within art forms and their traditions. His practice has grown through numerous collaborations, including with Meg Stuart, Philip Gehmacher, Su-Mei Tse, Pablo Castilla & Hedwig Biong, Valentina Stepanova... In recent years, he has focused on the role of traces as carriers of history. He seeks to bring the fictional reality of the past into the present and activate it as a source of friction – most recently in a project on forgotten fascist architecture and epigraphy in Italy, and in a local Brussels project exploring the aesthetics and symbolism of charity as expressed in hagiographic stained-glass windows of municipal churches in Brussels.
