Motherbaby

Motherbaby is a new performance by Marieke & Sophia, a young theatre duo whose graduation work Guilty of Love scored high marks at Theater aan Zee in 2022. Now, together with Kristien De Proost, the duo dives into the world of motherhood, unknown to them.

As (young) women who (n)ever want to become mothers, Marieke, Sophia and Kristien navigate through their expectations and fears. From their highly personal stories, they explore the stigmatising clichés surrounding the mother figure. What do we hide when we lavish 'the mother' with sentimentality? And why does she become the scapegoat when society fails? Motherbaby is an abstract musical, in which Sophia, Marieke and Kristien sing of the mother-child bond in all its contradictory facets. They take you into the twilight zone between suffocating love and tender aggression.
