Marieke & Sophia

Marieke & Sophia form an artistic duo. Their works include Guilty of Love (2022) and Motherbaby (2024).

Marieke Schraepen (1995) is an actress, performer and theatre maker. She studied at KASK (drama) and KULeuven (philosophy). Together with Sophia Bauer, she created, among other works, Guilty of Love (2022) and Motherbaby (2024). She was also the voice narrator in a pulse with no body a sun with no sky (Ezra Veldhuis & Bosse Provoost), and appeared as a performer in, amongst others, Ne Mosquito Pas (Simon Van Schuylenbergh), Een Lola (Yahya Terryn), and Giants (Werktoneel). In 2024, she served as stage director for De Sont of Mjoezik by Maria Zandvliet. Marieke works as a teacher at KASK Drama and at Larf (Ghent), where she runs theatre workshops for young people.

Sophia Bauer (1994) is an actress and theatre maker. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in textile design, she studied drama at KASK School of Arts in Ghent and applied theatre studies at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. In her graduation production Guilty of Love, she explored the cultural obsession with sexual violence together with Marieke Schraepen and Mats Vandroogenbroeck. Guilty of Love was performed at, amongst other venues, Theater Aan Zee 2022, and was revived in 2024 at KVS Brussels and at the Auawirleben festival in Bern (CH). Together with Marieke Schraepen and Kristien de Proost, she created Motherbaby, a sung performance about the sky-high expectations placed on mothers, which premiered in February 2024 at Monty. In addition to her own productions, Sophia regularly performs in other people’s work. Her first professional experience as an actress was in De Dieren (2020), directed by Geert Belpaeme. She subsequently appeared as a performer in Newpolyphonies by Myriam van Imschoot & HYOID (2020). In 2021, she performed in Giants by Werktoneel, and played the role of Albertinette in Operette, a production by Timeau de Keyser & Tibaldus. In 2023, she played the role of Bongi Perez in the critically acclaimed production Up Your Ass by Lieselot Siddiki and Nona Demey Gallagher. She writes plays for the German-speaking Agora Theater in St. Vith, and in 2026 she will appear in Fabels by Kopergietery.
