Moved by the Memories of Affects
For Moved by the Memories of Affects, Audrey Merilus draws inspiration from biomythography, borrowed from Audre Lorde; a hybrid genre that combines autobiographical narrative and myth.
She relies on storytelling (personal, fictional…), as well as iconography, mythological figures, drawing influences from Afro-Caribbean mythology to create a narrative tapestry that unfolds into a dreamlike realm, inhabited by dance, images, and distortion.
From choreographic writing to visual materials, sensory elements, and sound textures, Merilus explores a space crossed by flows, memories, and affects. This approach becomes a physical ground where her questions materialise, turning the body into a site of apparitions, incarnations, expressions, and transformation.
