One Three Some – Practices of Democracy

One Three Some is the second phase of the artist’s research on the relation between performance and the practice of democracy.

Following the first part of the work, An Analogue Campaign, which explored the more individual practice of public speaking, this time the focus is on an embodied, affective approach to the practice of assembling.

Politics in this research is understood as: “appearing to others as others appear to me” (Schneider) and thus relates closely to bodily appearance, to the forms the body takes in front of others, as well as to the use of language involved in this case. Politics is, thus, seen as a corporeal practice that intertwines with performance. What matters in democratic assemblies is not merely what is said, but also how something is said, as well as the emotions and affects involved in this experience. The performativity of all assemblies is utterly significant especially in capitalistic contexts that neglect such important aspects based on a (pseudo)rationality.

Understanding the body as the terrain of the political, One Three Some explores howthe way we literally use and position our bodies in relation to each other can affect the way we think, speak, feel and act politically, experimenting with the bodily operations of a community of interacting bodies, and the structural, sensorial and linguistic processes involved in a democratic exchange.
