PELVIC BATH / PELVIC BASIN (the well of feminine power) an OPERA in 5 acts

“As women we have come to distrust that power which rises from our deepest and non-rational knowledge. (…) But the erotic offers a well of replenishing and provocative force to the woman who does not fear its revelation (…).” Audre Lorde

We are a group of women, dreaming to invoke the divine feminine principle. Exhausted from adjusting our bodies and spirits to the contemporary patriarchal structure and time calendar, we decided to search for what a more feminine counterbalance could be like. The female body has been groomed over centuries to be disembodied when it comes to pleasure, instead of receiving pleasure, women have been conditioned to give pleasure of or being the object that creates pleasure in the other. To reclaim pleasure in our bodies is an important step into the transformation of women. The last years with the emergence of the #metoo movement have brought a lot of the ongoing and normalised abuse in our society to the surface. This has been and still is an important step toward the healing of women from trauma, self experienced or passed on through shame and guilt from their mothers etc.

Our mothers and grandmothers have fought their fight the best way they knew. Still we feel left with a big amount of work to do, not knowing where to start, how to heal, how to relate differently and more deeply to what could be called feminine energy. We as women haven’t had a lot of role-models for centuries and now need to uncover wisdoms stored our bodies. We are departing from the question what femininity means for each one of us right now and how we can evoke this power stored in our bodies. Sensuality, the body, as a reminder where our pleasure lies, where our boundaries are, where our strength is.

We are re-imagining the feminine body through pleasure, the power of the erotic. We understand this as a kind of pleasure activism. We are rendering this very intimate exploration visible. We are sharing with a broader audience our her-stories, our experiences being a woman and why we feel the urgency to explore our feminine sensuality deeper. Our voices will take the audience on this journey between real life experiences, past lives, imagination, mythology and the concrete materiality of the body.
