Never Walk Alone #7: Fourfold
In the work of Meryem Bayram the exploration for intersections between man and environment is key. Using materials such as wood, cardboard and elastic bands, she creates installations that map out the flight lines of the environment and at the same time expose a parallel network of immaterial forces. She creates a field of tension between the known and the unknown, with helplines and obstacles.
For this performance Bayram collaborates with visual artist Guy Rombouts, who works with similar mechanisms to generate images. Among other things, he is the creator of the visual alphabet AZART, which consists of a limited number of signs that can be combined into countless two- or three-dimensional drawings or forms.
Fourfold (Autonomous Scenography) is not a performance or theatre, but a generator of changing scenography – a machine, in other words, that makes ever-changing images. Just like the image, sound, language and light are used as a creative force: not to represent something, but to produce a reality in complete freedom.
