Work in Progress: delay no more 0.1
Welcome to the work-in-progress sharing of delay no more's project delay no more 0.1 on Thursday August 27th!
delay no more 0.1 is a research-based performance created by exploring the tension between individuality and collectivity. Drawing from personal experiences of migration, the work examines how Asian women are perceived, categorized, and fetishized within Western contexts. Sharing the sense of being in-between cultures, the aim of the project is to develop a collective autobiography, using the inbetweenness as a space of creation.
The research process unfolds through the deconstruction and reconstruction of unison: on the one hand, it will be explored on a practical level through the generation of movement material; on the other, it will be examined on a conceptual level, embracing its meaning both literally and in terms of possible contrasts. How can the idea of unison become a space for reflection on the affinities and differences that run through our bodies?
delay no more is a collective founded by Isabel Nguyen Dao, Jessi Zhang, Kiu-Yan Amy Cheng and Mashiro Tamura. They explore community building and collectivity through mediums such as movement, dance, cooking, writing and soundscaping. Recognising the layers of background and migrational experience in the group, the context of Western dance education has brought them together where all of them shared a similar process of questioning their positionality as Asian identifying artists. Their aim is to share space and host questions around hybrid identities, expanding into a form of resistance: turning discomfort into comfort, empowerment within complexity.
