Houcem Bouakroucha
Bio
Houcem Bouakroucha is a Tunisian dancer and choreographer whose work centers on movement as a primary language. He began his journey in hip-hop before expanding into contemporary dance, later training at the Centre Méditerranéen de Danse Contemporaine (CMDC) in Tunis. As a performer, he has collaborated with several choreographers and appeared at international festivals such as Festival d’Avignon, Tanz im August, and Romaeuropa Festival.
These experiences led him to question established artistic structures and to develop a practice grounded in research and experimentation. His work leans toward collaborative creation, often engaging artists from different disciplines to explore the relationship between body, sound, and visual environments. In this spirit, he co-founded Roof Collective in 2023 with Feteh Khiari, an artistic platform dedicated to developing choreographic and performative works in alternative and unconventional spaces, where architecture, environment, and audience proximity become active elements of the performance.
