Jeanne Spaeter

Jeanne Spaeter (1993) is a performance artist and actress who lives and works between Bern and Brussels. After studying theatre at the Laboratoire de Formation au Théâtre Physique (Montreuil), her interest in performance led her to the Master of Arts in Contemporary Art Practices at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, from which she graduated in June 2021.

Since 2019, Jeanne has been exploring the theme of love in a series of performances that aim to strip this notion of its mystical and romantic aura to analyse it in entrepreneurial and sociological terms. Her goal is to expose the normative codes that underpin our relationships. These works include Catherinette, Satisfaction Survey for People Who Have Had a Physical and/or Sentimental Relationship with Jeanne Spaeter, Market Study to Improve Jeanne Spaeter's Love Services, and Couple Discovery Package. The latest pieces in this series are the stage performance Love under Contract, recounting her year-long experience as a couple with Mike – a man who was completely unknown to her until then – under the aegis of the Contract for a Quality Love Relationship, and Jeanne Spaeter Love Consulting, a counselling office promoting a method for Maximizing Your Lovability.

Her performances have been presented at La Comédie de Genève (Geneva), La Bâtie (Geneva), Tojo Theater Reitschule (Bern), Schlachthaus Theater (Bern), Théâtre du Pommier (Neuchâtel), Festival Les Créatives (Geneva), Centre Pasquart (Biel/Bienne), Magasins Généraux (Pantin), Nuit Blanche (Paris), and Transformes (Paris).
