Bio

Laryssa Kim is an Italo-Congolese singer and composer based in Brussels, known for her ability to weave soulful vocals with layered electronics and acousmatic textures. Starting her musical journey in Rome with reggae musicians and DJs, she later expanded her practice through contemporary dance and physical theatre in Amsterdam, before studying acousmatic music composition at the Royal Conservatory of Mons. Centring the voice as her main instrument, she crafts hypnotic, emotionally charged compositions that blend experimental soundscapes with intimate song structures. Her debut EP Lov’em All (2019) led to performances across Belgium, followed by the instrumental EP Submarine Thoughts (City Tracks/InFiné). Her debut album Contezza (2024) was praised by Pitchfork as "an exploration of the limits of the unconscious," and confirmed her unique voice in contemporary music.

Alongside her solo work, Kim composes for dance, theatre, and video, with commissions for KVS, VIERNULVIER, Kaaitheater, deSingel, Detheatermaker, VRT, RTBF and others. Her live performances combine music with lighting and video, creating an immersive, multidisciplinary experience. As a DJ, she offers two distinct selections: one focused on ambient, experimental and electro sounds, and another drawing from Afrobeats, Congolese rumba, soukous, and contemporary Afro-diasporic styles.
